A few more won't hurt, right?

I'm getting down to crunch time here. Only a week till the move! Busy with packing and doing all the annoying tasks associated with moving all your belongings a couple hundred miles. And trying to fit in all the "New York" things I want to do one last time.

I don't have much to blog about because I haven't been doing much reading except for Harry Potter. But the fact that I don't have time to read hasn't stopped me from buying lots of books lately. I've been around to my favorite UBSs here and bought:

That's Anya Seton's Katherine (never read her before); The Masqueraders by Heyer (I'm always on the lookout for pretty hardcover Heyers); The Disorderly Knights by Dorothy Dunnett (Lymond Chronicles #3---I read the first two a few years ago and want to finish the series at some point); Bride of the MacHugh by Jan Cox Speas (this is a bit of a classic, isn't it?); Haunted Ground and Lake of Sorrows by Erin Hart (fabulous archaeological mysteries); Second Chances by Sharon Sala (never read her either and someone was saying she was good---Nath, was it you?); Karen Rose's Count to Ten (because I've heard such good things about it); and The Templar's Seduction by Mary Reed McCall (I'm hesitant about this one because the Templars, they bore me, but people are saying it is good).

And then there have been a lot of new books on sale lately that I've had to buy:
Unfortunate Miss Fortunes by Crusie/Dreyer/Stuart, Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Quinn, The Roman's Virgin Mistress by Michelle Styles (oh that title hurts, but I liked her last book and it's ROMAN, so I can't pass it up), Bujold's Legacy (woot!), and Kelley Armstrong's Exit Strategy. I've got some good reading ahead of me.

Um, I think that's it. Because the poor movers really are not going to be happy when they see the huge pile of book boxes.

Oh, and these are the new Tevas I bought yesterday. I was trying to describe them to Twin on the phone last night and she was not understanding what they were like. So here they are. Are they ugly? I like them and they are soooo comfortable. They stay on much better than most flip-flops.

And now I am going to bike to Coney Island and see all of its tacky glory for the last time. ;)

I like the shoes! They look comfy and I love the green. :o)

Enjoy your last bit of being a full time New Yorker! Didn't I read that Coney Island is closing and a big new development is going in? Sad, really.

a little more than 500 miles, actually.
Nice shoes, chicky-poo! Nice books, too -- maybe I can borrow a couple...
Can't wait to see you...

I've got Legacy on order but it has to get to New Zealand and hasn't shipped yet so I've still got a bit of a wait ahead of me.

The Lymond books will be worth the effort. It's a fantastic series. And I love The Masqueraders; it's one of my favourite Heyers.

Happy reading.

I read Katherine about four years ago and enjoyed it, then.

I don't think your flip flops are ugly! I love wearing flip flops because I hate shoes, so anytime I find flip flops with interesting, unique designs, I'm always quick to grab them up! :-D

all you said was "strappy and green" which was not very descriptive now was it? But now I see they are strappy and green. me likey! I will borrow them. Yesterday I wore my flipflops all day and then as I was standing in the grocery store parking lot I got this HUGE cramp in my second toe. SPASM. it was seriously painful. I bet those tevas don't give you spasms. hmmm.

did you really bike all the way to coney island? dude.

Very, very cute sandals (like the nail polish colour, too!). And lucky twin... my sister's feet are much bigger than mine, so I can't borrow her (much prettier than mine) shoes. :-(

Hi Jennie!

I've been enjoying your blog for quite some time and decided it was time to say HELLO!

I see you got a Sharon Sala book.. I've got that book waiting for me in my own HUGE TBR pile, I've read a couple of her books in the past and LOVED her writing.. She writes under the name Dinah McCall as well which was the first one I read called Storm Warning.

I love your strappy green shoes :) I hope you're move goes smooth! Gives those movers a good workout with all your wonderful book treasures!

Happy Reading

C2--Thanks! Yes, they are re-doing Coney Island---it's going to be Disney-fied. :( I hope it retains at least some of its personality.

Mama--Is it really 500 miles? That's a long way, isn't it? So I see this moving-closer-to-home thing is actually going to have one drawback---you're going to start stealing my books aren't you? Hee hee, just kidding!! We can borrow each other's books, so long as you're nice to mine. :)

Kerry--I remember the first two Lymond books were a bit of work but at the same time oddly compulsively readable. I haven't read The Masqueraders yet, so that'll be my next Heyer. :)

Dance Chica--Yeah, I love flip flops too. They're pretty much all I wear in the summer except when I'm at work. Thank goodness they're in style now. But then when they go out of style I will probably still wear them. ;)

Julie--How do you have a HUGE spasm in your second toe? Your second toe is so small, can it really have a HUGE spasm? You're such a freak. And yes, I biked all the way to Coney Island, which was lovely except it made my bum hurt a little.

Rosario--Thanks! Yes, we are lucky that we can borrow each other's clothes. (Especially since I hate shopping, so I just steal Julie's stuff all the time!)

Amy--Well, hello! Always good to meet another reader. :) I am looking forward to the Sala. Do you know why she has two pen names? Is one suspense and the other not, or something? I could look it up myself but I'm feeling a bit lazy. :)

Those are really cute! And LOL at you buying more books before you leave. Watch the twin make you pack them all away!

Hmmm, I'm thinking you are going to miss the UBS when you move!

And those shoes are sassy!

Mailyn--Twin was just bugging me yesterday to get hurried up and finish packing. Argh. It's not very fun though. ;)

Cindy--I will miss the UBSs here, but to be honest for romance they're not that great. New Yorkers are really snobby about their fiction and lots of stores have very small (if any) romance sections.

Well - seeing you bought the MRM book inspired me to start reading my copy. And Katherine really is a wonderful book. I loved it when I read it years ago.
And I love your sandals!

Love the sandals :)

Hate packing books, I'm too easily side tracked and end up sitting on the floor reading instead.

Haven't been to Coney Island in years--good memories :)

Hey Jennie :D

I've never read Second Chances, although I love Sharon Sala's books :D let me know what you think of it :D

love the sandals... and the toes! LOL :P

Kristie--Ok, I'll wait to see what you say about Templar's Seduction, maybe that will help me decide whether I want to read it or not. ;)

Tara--You should go out to Coney Island this summer before they tear down all the old amusement park stuff and rebuild. I think they're doing it this winter and I just know it won't be as interesting afterward!

Nath--I will definitely try the Sala and blog about it. Can't promise it will be soon, but eventually. :)

Jennie--VERY happy to see you've bought 'Bride of the MacHugh', since it's one of my all-time favourites. Can't wait to read your review of it. You'll have to make the effort now to hunt down a copy of her 'My Lord Monleigh', which is equally good, if not better. Definitely let your mother borrow this one, when you see her!

I used to hate Tevas, but the new flip-flops are cute. I like the strappy thing.

Jennie said...

Susanna--I picked up Bride of the MacHugh because I remembered you'd recommended it! I also got a used copy of The Tamarind Seed a few weeks ago, but haven't gotten to read it yet. I might let my mom borrow them, if she's nice. ;)

Devon--Little too sporty for you? Lol, yeah some Tevas are really ugly. This is a more interesting style than most, and they are so comfortable!

You've probably looked it up since it was 12 days ago now! I'm so bad about reading blogs sometimes LOL

Sharon Sala seems to be more romance and Dinah McCall seems to be suspense. But I've seen the same title with different issue years having the other name... so really, I have no clue. LOL Maybe she just wants to confuse us? ;)
