I do love Leonie and Avon as characters though.

Marianne--Yes, it was all about Brussles and I couldn't follow it at all. I remember thinking that if I'd stuck with it, I was sure to catch on. But I don't have much patience with audio books to begin with. I'll see if I can find a copy of Regency Buck somewhere. :)Jenniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05804281162557876557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22655888.post-49982358498822059302007-05-30T07:56:00.000-04:002007-05-30T07:56:00.000-04:00Heyer's Regency Buck is about a brother and sister...Heyer's Regency Buck is about a brother and sister left to the care of a guardian they don't know. Avoiding spoilers for Regency Buck, that brother and sister and their eventual spouses are all main characters in An Infamous Army. So perhaps if you read RB first, the first chapter would be less confusing. (The hero of AIA is also in RB).
But, yes, as I remember the book starts with a lot of gossip about Brussels just before Waterloo, and it is confusing. But you don't really have to take it all in to enjoy the story. And the story is different - as you say, the heroine rarely gets to be the rake of the couple.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22655888.post-19020640087771917692007-05-29T17:06:00.000-04:002007-05-29T17:06:00.000-04:00I just love all her books - These Old Shades is ac...I just love all her books - These Old Shades is actually one of my favourites :-) But Devil's Cub is great too.

I read somewhere that These Old Shades is loosely linked to The Black Moth - they're basically the same cast of characters, but given different names.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22655888.post-1003155083171126872007-05-29T17:00:00.000-04:002007-05-29T17:00:00.000-04:00A dissolute heroine? Hmm, you don't see those every day. ;)

I actually tried to listen to An Infamous Army on tape once and I got through the first chapter and was just totally, totally confused. Heyer introduces too many characters in the first bit--I couldn't keep track. I should try reading it. I'm sure I will eventually get to everything Heyer ever wrote. :)Jenniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05804281162557876557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22655888.post-36414842323528625412007-05-29T15:20:00.000-04:002007-05-29T15:20:00.000-04:00And the heroine of An Infamous Army is the grandda...And the heroine of An Infamous Army is the granddaughter of Mary & Dominic. Which is interesting, because she's very much a Vidal, so you've basically a heroine who is a bit dissolute, and a hero who is more straightforward.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22655888.post-11158483163077581532007-05-29T12:08:00.000-04:002007-05-29T12:08:00.000-04:00Loved this book!Loved this book!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22655888.post-78661422822341700532007-05-29T11:56:00.000-04:002007-05-29T11:56:00.000-04:00I'm so glad you liked it!
